75 Mumbai buildings served notices by fire department

Mumbai Fire Brigade has sent notices to 75 structures in the city, including highrises, for flouting fire safety norms.

The fire brigade has undertaken an extensive survey of areas with high density of human population over the past two months. Fire department officials said as many as 75 structures were found having inadequate or dysfunctional fire fighting equipment and were served notices under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention & Life Safety Measure Act, 2006.

These structures include malls, multiplexes, highrises, industrial complexes, hospital etc. The Om Heera Panna Shopping Mall in Oshiwara, where a fire broke out on May 8, is one of the structures that have been served notice.

Depending on the seriousness of the violation, the structures have been given a period of seven to 120 days within which it is supposed to correct the faulty systems.
