Citizens looking to acquire title deeds of their residential and commercial properties in the state can now heave a sigh of relief with the details now available online.
Maharashtra state chief information commissioner (SIC) Suresh Joshi has directed the registration department to put up details of all registered documents on its website, including information like the registrar’s office where the documents would be available. “If the order is not complied with, the applicant can approach the SIC again and he will be compensated. The public information officer will be penalised,’’ said Shailesh Gandhi, central information commissioner.
The order followed an RTI query by Borivli resident Deepak Furia, asking for the basic procedure of procuring title deed documents. Officials admitted over 1 lakh original documents prior to 2002 were pending in various offices.
The directive, he said, will mean citizens “need not file an RTI query, but take a copy of the registration number to the office and ask them to provide the documents”.
